Christmas decorations, CZA&D style

A 19 foot tree decked with candy ornaments. "Santa's Sweet Shop" is the theme for this year's decor.
A ruckus topiary adds greenery to the decor.

Stockings and garland stuffed with red glass ornaments grace side-tables.

A beautiful stone carved nativity scene on one of the tables.

Pounds of fake snow give a wintery wonderland feel to a very hot Christmas in Singapore!

Windows are graced with wreaths, also filled with red ornaments and snow, tied with a festive bow.

Every year I get some assignments to decorate homes for the holidays. Here's a look at some of this year's trimmings! Merry Christmas and best wishes for 2010!

Beautiful Event pop up by Gary Card

Gary Card has a knack for really exquisite environmental decor and spaces. This is the interior of The Patrón Silver Reindeer pop up restaurant in Hackney which is only open this weekend and is a collaboration between the duo behind Bistrotheque (Pablo Flack and David Waddington) and tequila brand Patrón. Young set designer Gary Card designed the monochrome snowflakey interior.

Great stuff i'll like to be able to create some day!

Nothing short of beautiful.

Apple products look best when they are put side by side.

Journey to Bakheng

A fantastic sunset creates the stage for an unexpected photograph of a lone man standing atop Bakheng Hill in Siam Reap, Cambodia. I had a great time there exploring the ruins of Angkor during Fall break, September 2009.

Beautiful Environmental Typography

A new installation challenges our preconceptions concerning heroism, not least because of its location on the walls of The Guards Chapel, spiritual home of the Household Division of the British Army

With British servicemen losing their lives daily in Afghanistan and yesterday's Remembrance Day celebrations, the word 'hero' has been prominent in press and public debate of late. But what does it mean to be a hero today?

Complete Hero, a projection-based artwork by Martin Firrell, explores the subject through text and moving image. A series of films are projected on two sides of the Chapel, with sound accessible through headphones provided at the site.

Firrell has been Public Artist in Residence with the Household Division throughout 2009. To make the piece he conducted interviews with men and women of the Army.

An interesting and haunting memorial of light, experience and ephemerality.

Ad Busters!

Anyone presently employed within this giant glob of microchips, paper, ink and transistor tubes commonly referred to as “the media” knows just how drastic the implications of the recession have become.

Snark blogs are aglow with schadenfreude that revels in the desperation spilling forth from the tweets of recent media redundancies. Network television, magazines and newspapers are all under threat because the credit crisis has shaken loose the lynchpin that keeps commercial media afloat: advertising.

Penny-pinching, cheeseburger-wolfing consumers are spending less and are enjoying more free online content. That much we all know. As a result, corporate ad budgets have been slashed, setting off a line of collapsing dominoes that is triggering the implosion of mass media.

Soup kitchen lines are filling up with copywriters and journalists alike, and everybody is searching for an answer: a monetary messiah to deliver them from this catastrophe. Amid all the clamor, infighting and vitriol, the following opinion was voiced:

“Advertising is failure.”

Anti Plastic, Anti Identity

I was at Ikea the other day and I liked how Ikea in Singapore no longer prints their logos or identity on the white plastic bags (that you will be charged for) if you don't bring your own reusable bags.

They are sending a message that they no longer want to be associated with wasteful plastic bags, and their lack of 'identity' on the bags sent out a much stronger statement then if they had their logos on it!

Brilliant!

ALL GOOD THINGS

Something found on ffffound.

dunno who's.

if you do,

please give me a clue.

How would you mark special moments? Perhaps through an action!

I love this Absolut Ad by TBWA that reminds us of what a special moment could look like potentially. If only it were true what a moment it would be!

How would you mark special moments?

As part of my FYP study on the marking of milestones in our lives, this was one beautiful Dentyne advertising campaign that looks at how we humans mark special moments. Perhaps just a hug or a kiss, the most beautiful expressions of fulfillment and friendship.

Lovely Frames

I was at the National Geographic Store in Singapore the other day and I simply love the way they have framed up beautiful pictures. The photo journals were hung on the wall in different frames of all shapes and sizes. The black wall tied them all in and created a sense of mystery and chicness to the look.

It makes you want to approch the wall with caution, as if each picture is a window into another world frozen in time!

A dinner with Jack

Jack's friend Jill sits on a table inside the house.

Jack gets prime spot atop a ladder together with his pumpkin friends!

Orange candles in stained glass match the colors of glowing pumpkins.

Creepy overhanging stuff which was fast to do as we just had to make it messy. The more the better!

A thunderstorm brewed over the party creating atmosphere but also threatened a washout!

We played a prank on my sister with jack over skype!

I had the chance on Halloween to do a party with a twist. Carving pumpkins is really quite fun and this was a great opportunity to use the color orange. Orange candles and orange pumpkin Jack'olanterns created a creepy atmosphere. Large bales of white cloth hung over the dinner table and creepy tattered streamers hung down over dinner guests. Jack the pumpkin was placed on a ladder together with his little other pumpkin friends!
